It’s time for the Town of Pelham Public Library’s Summer Reading Game! This year, the theme is “A Universe of Stories,” and interested children from pre-school to eighth grade can be part of it! For complete game rules and the sign-up form, click on this link at pelhamlibrary.org. Participants are also welcome to sign-up online at the Library.
Here are the basics: Registered children receive prizes for how many minutes they read. Once they’ve signed up online, they can stop by the Library to pick up an official “Timed Reading Record” and a book of stickers. Children collect one sticker for every 20 minutes of reading time -- either by reading on their own or being read to. They can collect one prize at the Library for every three stickers they earn during the program run, and will receive the prize of a book for every nine stickers they earn. Participants will also be entered in the Library’s raffle for a Merge Cube each time they complete their entire Reading Record, and then will receive a new Reading Record. Sign-up ends on Wednesday, July 31.
The Summer Reading Game will conclude with a make-your-own-sundae ice cream party for children who participated on Thursday, August 22rd at 3 p.m.
The companion Summer Reading Program features activities all summer long that play off of “The Universe of Stories” theme (for a list of all programs at the Library this summer, see below). This year, the Summer Reading Program features space-themed movies, arts and crafts projects in which kids can make their own planet and two programs from Engineering for Kids! You can also check out the Library’s calendar on the website and/or Burbio for the full list of programs—or pick up a brochure at the Library.
Adults needn’t miss out on all the fun. The Library is also offering a Summer Reading Bingo game for adults (including teens) this summer. For information on that program visit www.pelhamlibrary.org
