Alden Mesrop of Darien, Connecticut, formerly of Mt. Vernon and Pelham, New York, passed away on October 26th, 2019 after a short illness. He was 89 years old.
Alden was born in Greenwich, Connecticut on June 24th, 1930. He grew up in various sections of Riverdale, and attended public high school in New York City. Alden graduated from Columbia College and Columbia Law School. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving as a Corporal in the army in Seoul. He was posted to the 558th Military Police Division and managed the 558th Company Bar (go figure)!
Alden was an attorney specializing in trusts and estates. He practiced law with an exceptional degree of precision, attention, accuracy and ethics. His passions, though, lay in scholarly pursuits, languages (perhaps he should have been a professor), family, and displaying kindness and respect towards everyone...all creatures great and small...as he would say. Alden's extensive book collection ranged from "Teach Yourself Swahili to The Collected Works of Edgar Allan Poe". He also loved music, movies and baseball. He was devoted to his grandchildren and reveled in their accomplishments - Kindergarden graduations; artistic endeavors; culinary achievements.
Alden was that rare gem of a person that everyone loved and admired.
Alden is survived by his wife of 65 years, Alida Rognoni Mesrop; his brother Robert Mesrop; his daughters: Andrea Mesrop Melliadis, Alison Mesrop, and Claudia Mesrop Zeller; son in law Eric Zeller and grandchildren Matthew and Samantha Zeller, as well as countless friends, relatives and lifelong admirers.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 30th at 1:00 PM at The Church of The Ascensio, 36-38 Fifth Avenue (at Tenth Street), New York City followed by a reception in the parish hall.
Donations in memory of Alden can be made to the Rowayton Fire Department in Rowayton, CT, or to Wasatch Community Gardens in Salt Lake City, UT.
