To the Editor:

I am writing as a longtime Pelham resident and a former member of the Pelham Board of Education. I support enthusiastically the re-election of Madeline Smith to the Board of Education. It is obvious that Madeline helps make things happen!

1. Madeline has brought advocacy to Pelham that has brought results—the restoration of state aid to the district.

2. Madeline has worked to enhance programs, including a new math program in the elementary schools, the International Baccalaureate Program at the middle school and additional STEAM courses at the high school.

3. Madeline has used her knowledge of finance to help keep our taxes under the tax cap.

Perhaps most important, Madeline understands the role of a Board member as distinguished from the work of school administrators and principals and she collaborates with them to ensure the best education for our children. She not only has the experience of three years on the Board but the experience of having had her children in grades K-12 in the Pelham schools. We must capitalize on her accumulated knowledge and extraordinary accomplishments by electing her to a second term in the May 19 election.

Thank you.
