To the Editor:
I strongly encourage Pelham residents to vote for Madeline Smith for reelection to the Board of Education.
As a former BOE member, I had the pleasure of working with Madeline during her first year on the Board. Before her election in 2012, Madeline was an active member of the parent community with children at Colonial and PMHS, so she began her School Board service with a good understanding of the District. Starting with that strong foundation, she was a quick learner, studying the issues, asking intelligent questions, and listening to all viewpoints. Over the past three years she has been an excellent Board member.
The learning curve for School Board members is steep, and the importance of experience should not be underestimated, much less denigrated as if knowledge were evidence of lack of imagination. In Madeline, we have a candidate who is experienced and has done great work for our District over the past 3 years.
Madeline has the four most important traits of a School Board member: she is smart, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and skilled at working collegially and collaboratively with others.
We are lucky to have Madeline on the Board, and she deserves our vote on May 18.
