In 2021 Vuelta an Espaa, Jakobsen improved on his 2019 result by winning three stages:
Stages 4, 8, and 16. While competing for the green points classification jersey with Jasper Philipsen, he was able to maintain a comfortable lead. To complicate matters further, Philipsen was forced to withdraw from the race after Stage 10 due to illness, leaving Magnus Cort and overall GC contender Primo Rogli as his main competition in the race’s final stages.
Stage 16, won by Jakobsen on his 25th birthday in a sprint finish, was the deciding stage. In spite of the fact that he was unable to add to his point total after this stage win, he was still the overall leader in the points competition until the end of the race, earning him his first Grand Tour jersey.
In 2022, Jakobsen took the lead in the second stage of the Tour de France with a win.
