Ines Rau Before and After: She Establishes Precedent as The First Transgender Playmate!
The French fashion model Ines-Loan Rau was born in 1990. She made history as the first transgender person to be featured as Playmate of the Month in Playboy magazine.
Parisian-born Rau has Algerian ancestry. The narrative of English trans model Caroline “Tula” Cossey encouraged Rau, who was born a male, to transition and undergo sex reassignment surgery at the age of 16. When she was 24, she finally came out as a trans woman after having lived as a woman for several years.
Ines Rau Before and After
The latest edition of Playboy is exceptional for more than one reason. The first is that Hugh Hefner, the man who founded Playboy and was 91 years old when he passed away on September 27, would be featured on the cover. In the magazine’s history, this will be the first time a man has been on the cover without a female companion.
But maybe even more noteworthy is the inclusion of Playmate’s first transgender model in a photo spread and centerfold in this issue. French model Ines Rau will be the recipient of this accolade.
According to People, Rau, who is 26 years old, was photographed by Derek Kettela for the shoot, in which she wears a white bra and lace pants that match, as well as gorgeous but subtle white socks and sneakers.
It’s true that Playmate is a brand-new magazine, but this isn’t Rau’s first time posing for a portrait in a classic men’s publication. She was included in its “Evolution” spread in the May 2014 A-Z Issue. According to People, the purpose of the spread was to acknowledge the growing global acceptance of transgender people.
“It’s how I celebrated my coming-out,” Rau said in an accompanying interview with Playboy. I signed up with an agency after taking that opportunity. And it wasn’t easy for Rau, a person as powerful and self-assured as she was.
In Her Words to Playboy:
“For a very long period, I hid the fact that I identify as transgender. I went on numerous dates before I finally stopped forgetting about them.
I was concerned that others would always label me as odd and that I would never find a boyfriend. Then I told myself, ‘You know what? It’s best to just be yourself. Regardless of the topic at hand—gender, sexuality, or otherwise—coming out is liberating. People that turn you down aren’t worth your time. Not seeking external validation is the key.”
In the present day, as a model who has broken barriers in high fashion for Balmain and Vogue Italia, Ines Rau is undeniably a woman worth taking guidance from.
“For the ladies, my suggestion is to relax,” she concluded. You shouldn’t put stress on yourself. Adopt a self-loving attitude and take pride in your flaws. Everything is mental, you know.”
After Cossey’s 1981 appearance in Playboy, she was the second transgender woman to willingly come out in the magazine (Cossey was outed against her will and reappeared in the magazine in 1991).
After being featured in magazines, Rau began modeling for companies including Nicole Miller, Alexis Bittar, and Barneys New York. She also did a campaign for Balmain and was featured in Vogue Italia.
Rau made history in October 2017 when Cooper Hefner, son of Playboy founder Hugh Hefner, revealed that she would be featured as “Playmate of the Month” in the magazine’s November/December 2017 issue. To explain his decision to showcase Rau, Hefner compared it to his father’s 1965 decision to feature Jennifer Jackson as the first black model to appear in Playboy as a Playmate.
Who Is Ines Rau’s Boyfriend?
The stunning 29-year-old is neither single nor married. Ines Rau is currently seeing her long-term lover, Staiv Nation. The couple began dating in August of 2015, albeit their initial encounter is unknown.
