Born on July 1, 1971, Melissa Arnette Elliott is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and record producer. She began her career in the early to mid-1990s as a member of the R&B female group Sista.
She later joined the Swing Mob collective alongside her childhood friend and lifelong colleague Timbaland, with whom she collaborated on projects for American R&B bands Aaliyah, 702, Total, and SWV.
After working with other artists and making cameos, she finally went solo in 1997 with the release of Supa Dupa Fly, which had the top 20 hits “Sock It 2 Me.” After its first week of sales, the album peaked at #3 on the Billboard 200, becoming the highest-charting debut of all time by a female rapper.
The singles “She’s a Bitch,” “All N My Grill,” and the top five hits “Hot Boyz” all came from Elliott’s second album, Da Real World, which was released in 1999.
The later song’s remix set a new record for the most consecutive weeks at the top of the US R&B chart with the issue dated January 15, 2000, and it also topped the Hot Rap Singles chart for 18 consecutive weeks from December 1999 to March 2000.
Get Ur Freak On,” “One Minute Man,” “4 My People,” “Gossip Folks,” and “Work It” are just a few of the many hits Elliott has had since launching his international career with the releases of Miss E So Addictive (2001), Under Construction (2002), and This Is Not a Test (2003).
The latter is what ultimately earned her a Grammy for Best Female Rap Solo Performance. The EP Iconology was her debut release to the public.
According to Missy Elliott, she reduced her calorie intake by cutting out two foods The rapper announced her weight loss on Instagram in the spring of 2018; she stated that she had stopped eating bread and drinking anything save water (no juice or soda).
For the past four months, Elliot has only consumed water, forgoing any other juices or soda, and she has eliminated bread, which she admitted was the “hardest” part of her diet.
After Elliott lost weight a few years ago, she tweeted about it, claiming that she had been eating healthily and working out with Shaunt Fitness T25 DVDs.
She noticed a difference in her skin’s appearance and general health after adopting the new diet. During the time of his Under Construction album, Elliott tweeted in 2014, “Didn’t drop 70 pounds.” With the help of @shauntfitness T25 videos and a healthy diet, I was able to shed 30 pounds.
On October 22nd, “DripDemeanor” was released as the second single from the upcoming album. The third single, “Why I Still Love You,” was released on January 17, 2020. In April of 2020, “Cool Off” was issued as the EP’s fourth and final single.
Elliott was featured on the official remix of Toni Braxton’s single “Do It,” which was released on June 26, 2020. Elliott collaborated with Hannon Lane to make the song.
The track “Levitating” by Dua Lipa, which included Madonna and featured Elliott on the remix, was released on August 13, 2020. It was The Blessed Madonna who produced the remix. Elliott, in contrast to Madonna, made an appearance in the video. Will Hooper served as the video’s director.
Elliot was featured on Bree Runway’s track “ATM,” released on January 11, 2021. The City Girls’ “Twerkulator” music video, which she directed, is set to be released in July 2021.
In 2008, Elliott expressed her desire to create a family, but she also expressed her apprehension about labor and delivery, saying, “I don’t know if I can withstand that type of pain of labor.” When the year 2020 rolls around, perhaps it will be safe to have a baby without any special preparations. I’d rather adopt at this time, though.
Elliott and her father have had some limited contact over the years, but she maintains that she has never forgiven him for the abuse he inflicted on her mother.
Elliott explained her hiatus from the music industry to People magazine in June 2011 by saying that she was dealing with Graves’ illness, a form of hyperthyroidism. After she almost caused a car accident due to leg spasms while driving, doctors finally gave her a diagnosis. She was in such much pain she couldn’t even hold a pen to compose music. Her symptoms normalized when she started treatment.
