No. 6 Tennessee Overcomes Alabama 52-49 on A Late FG, Improving to 6-0!
Tennessee ended a humiliating losing skid, established itself as a championship contender, and celebrated in dramatic fashion after being merely a token opponent to Alabama for 15 years.
In a nail-biter on Saturday, No. 6 Tennessee edged out No. 3 Alabama 52-49 on a game-winning 40-yard field goal by Chase McGrath.
The Crimson Tide’s favorite song, “Dixieland Delight,” by the band Alabama blared over the stadium’s speakers as fireworks exploded over Neyland Stadium and turned the sky orange.
While the Tennessee Vols football team may have lost to Alabama, they are already looking ahead to their next game against the UT-Martin Skyhawks.
With a quarterback who transferred from Virginia Tech and is expected to finish in the top tier of Heisman voting, Tennessee has emerged as a serious contender for the national championship.
The 2012 20-17 win against Memphis was the only time UT Martin had ever beaten an FBS school. Jason Simpson, coach of the Skyhawks, likened the upcoming match against Tennessee to his team’s 2014 match against No. 1 Mississippi State and quarterback Dak Prescott.
