Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is a superhero film released in 2022 based on Marvel Comics’ Doctor Strange. It’s the sequel to Doctor Strange (2016) and the 28th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures (MCU). Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Rachel McAdams star alongside Benedict Cumberbatch in the film directed by Sam Raimi and written by Michael Waldron. Strange defends America Chavez (Gomez), a multiverse-traveling adolescent, from Wanda Maximoff in the film (Olsen).
By October 2016, Scott Derrickson, the filmmaker, and co-writer of Doctor Strange had begun planning a sequel. In December 2018, when Cumberbatch’s return was confirmed, he signed a contract to return as director. The title of the film, as well as Olsen’s involvement, was confirmed in July 2019, and Jade Halley Bartlett was hired to write it in October. In January 2020, Derrickson stepped down as director due to creative disputes and was replaced by Waldron and Raimi the following month. They added horror elements that Raimi had previously dealt with, and made Maximoff the film’s villain, continuing her WandaVision tale (2021). Filming began in London in November 2020 but was halted in January 2021 owing to the COVID-19 epidemic. By March 2021, production had resumed and was completed in Somerset by mid-April. Surrey and Los Angeles were also hit by gunfire.
We don’t know when Doctor Strange 3 will be released because it hasn’t been confirmed or even entered pre-production.
The COVID-19 epidemic did not assist the six-year gap between the first Doctor Strange picture and the Multiverse of Madness.
In any case, Doctor Strange 3 will most certainly be released in Sep 2022 or later at the earliest.
What will happen in Doctor Strange 3?
We expect Doctor Strange 3 to follow off where the Multiverse of Madness left off if it receives the green light. Stephen is likely to be dealing with the aftereffects of the black magic he employed against Wanda. The newly arrived Clea will be a challenge for the Bleeker Street magician (Charlize Theron).
Clea is Strange’s apprentice in the comic books, and she eventually marries him before becoming the Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme.
Clea is tied to the Dread Dormammu, the evil creature Stephen fought in his first film, therefore the threat she warns Strange about could be his reappearance.
But who knows, the MCU could go in any direction. When we asked Benedict Wong about a possible sequel, he revealed that he has his own idea for a third Strange film.
“I like the idea of the Secret Wars,” he explained, “bring everyone together, introduce a new crop [of foes].” “I believe the Secret Wars would be [the direction I want Doctor Strange 3 to go].”
Who will return for Doctor Strange 3 in the cast?
Without Benedict Cumberbatch as Steven Strange, Doctor Strange 3 would not exist. Before putting their spandex away, most Marvel stars have completed three solo films. Chris Hemsworth as Thor is the lone exception, having made it all the way to the fourth installment.
Furthermore, it’s difficult to picture a trilogy without Sorcerer Supreme Wong – and, given his frequent appearances in earlier MCU films, we expect Wong to stick around for a while.
Wanda, alias Scarlet Witch, as played by Elizabeth Olsen, has a story arc with Doctor Strange that seems to be coming to a close. But now that Marvel has entered the universe, there’s always the possibility of more.
Christine Palmer, played by Rachel McAdams, could make a comeback as well.
Doctor Strange 3 could also feature Xochitl Gomez, who makes her Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as the multiverse-hopping America Chavez. That doesn’t rule out the possibility of her participating in subsequent films, especially since there’s still no word on a Young Avengers feature (in which she’d most certainly play a key role).
Charlize Theron as Clea, Strange’s love interest and ultimate wife in the comics, makes her appearance in the mid-credit scene. He promises to assist her in repairing an universe incursion he caused with his pranks.
So Theron will almost certainly appear in the threequel (assuming it happens), as well as subsequent ventures.
Take your pick from the rest of the MCU’s ever-growing cast! Even the ones who have passed away! The possibilities are limitless in the multiverse! Please pray for us.
There is no indication who will return behind the scenes. Scott Derrickson directed the first picture and was slated to direct the sequel, but Sam Raimi took over in the middle of the production.
