Black Teen Killed After Being Accused Of Stealing.
Cyrus Carmack-Belton, died after being shot by a gas station owner. He was accused of stealing several bottles of water, the owner and his son chased Belton and shot him while on pursuit according to Richland County Sheriff’s Office. Rich Chow the gas station owner was arrested and charged with murder.
Belton was remembered by his middle-school classmates as intelligent and humorous as well as he is very liked in school because of his attitude. He was a STEM student in Summit Parkway Middle School in Columbia. The school posted on Facebook that Belton has also an infectious smile and tenacious. Wherein he often talks about his dreams and aspiration and want to own a tattoo shop and be famous one day.

Richland County Sheriff said that Belton never stole as what Chow insisted, there was a confrontation inside the store before Belton left and be chased. Chow’s son said he saw Belton holding a gun. Belton fell then got up and was shot at the back. According to law enforcement a gun was found beside the teen’s body but don’t have anything to prove whether or not he has a gun.
Richland County coroner Nadia Rutherford said the teen was shot at the right lower back, that damaged his heart and hemorrhaging. Chow had two confrontations of accusing the customers for shoplifting way back 2015 and 2018 that has resulted in firing his weapon. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the shooting is not intentional, but Belton’s attorney did not believe it, Todd Rutherford said this racial discrimination has been going on for generations that if you are black you will be killed in the street like a dog.
