The Migrant Crisis in New York Requires More Than $2.4 Billion, Adams Claims

Mayor Eric Adams seemed to have won last month when the governor promised to provide $2.4 billion, more than twice the amount suggested the previous year, to help with the expenses of assisting the tens of thousands of migrants who have come to New York in search of safety.

However, Mr. Adams stated on Tuesday that even that wouldn’t be sufficient.

In testimony before lawmakers at the State Capitol in Albany, the mayor stated that in order to prevent the city from making significant budget cuts, the state would have to pay for at least half of the expense of providing care for migrants—a sum his team estimated to be $4.6 billion.
