However, Governor Greg Abbott is asking for more in the most recent special session, and lawmakers have replied with a $1.5 billion proposal. The funds will be used to maintain existing barriers and build new ones.
However, some border people express skepticism of the proposal.
The governor’s office would get $1.5 billion under House Bill 6 for building, operating, and maintaining the border.
“Regardless of how much cash you spend on it, deterrence won’t be able to fix this problem. Jesse Fuentes, who has spent his entire life near the border, stated that negotiations must take place.
