Hocus Pocus may have been overshadowed by Halloween, but we’re still eagerly awaiting the film’s comeback. The sequel to the 1993 film has been confirmed for Disney+, and it appears like it will be even better than the original. Everything we’ve learned thus far is here.
Is there a set date for the release of Hocus Pocus 2, if it ever happens?
In some ways! Hocus Pocus 2 will premiere on Disney+ on September 30th, according to EW.
Hocus Pocus 2 will premiere on Disney+ in the fall of 2022, according to Bette Midler. A month earlier than expected, we’ll be able to get into the Halloween spirit all month long in October 2022 thanks to the earlier date. Hooray!
When did production on Hocus Pocus 2 get underway?
Sarah Jessica Parker has been sharing behind-the-scenes footage from the set of Hocus Pocus 2 with her fans for the past few years, including shots of her doing her hair and makeup for the film.
SJP took to Instagram Stories to reveal the process of achieving Sarah Sanderson’s flawless foundation match, as well as giving fans a peek at her character’s trademark white wig.
SJP teased viewers with the words “Hair and make-up test on HP2! First day” and footage of a makeup artist preparing “Sarah Sanderson’s face” in the videos. She continued, however, without providing any additional information, by telling followers: “We’ll keep everyone updated on the progress, so stay tuned. This is the final outcome.”
Continued, SJP made light of her white wig in the next video, making fun of herself “Sarah hasn’t shown up anywhere. Sarah hasn’t shown up anywhere. Some of Sarah is still here!” prior to introducing, “I won’t be displaying any additional information at this time. There is still a long way to go.”
The black flame candle is alight to the Sanderson sisters’ delight.
Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, & Kathy Najimy shall soon return.

Exciting! After that, Disney’s official Twitter account published a picture of the three actors in costume. “They’ve already gone wild, wild, wild! To celebrate #DisneyPlusDay, stars Bette Midler, S.J. Pheonix, and Kathy Najimy are now working on the sequel to the hit Halloween film, #HocusPocus2.”
Is the cast of Hocus Pocus 2 going to be the same?
Yes! There will be a return for Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimi in the sequel to their roles as Winnie, Sarah, and Mary Sanderson. “They want to do a movie, they’ve asked us if we were interested, and of course, all of us said yes,” Midler told Fox 5, New York. “I’m down, I’m all in.”
Director Kenny Ortega will not be returning, however. In an interview with Digital Spy, he said that he had not been approached to participate in the film. There is a sequel in production, and it appears to be directed by a different person, he said. “My best wishes go out to all of you. I hope they have as much fun and success as we have had with it, whichever way they decide to proceed.”
Director Adam Shankman, well renowned for his work on the Hairspray film adaption, will take on the position instead.
New actors and actresses will join the cast as well! A new cast of characters will be introduced in the second film on October 31, 2021 (Halloween, of course). Hanna Waddingham from Ted Lasso will be joining the cast, along with Veep’s Tony Hale, Werewolves Within’s Sam Richardson, and other newcomers.
According to information obtained via the official Twitter account, “You can now see newcomers such as Whittie Peak, Lilia Buckingham Belissa Escobedo, and Doug Jones as well as returning cast members like Sam Richardson and Tony Hale as well as newcomers such as Hannah Waddingham and Juju Brener. #HocusPocus2 will premiere on #DisneyPlus in the fall of 2022!”
Is there a Hocus Pocus 2 trailer?
There is currently no full trailer for the film. Disney+, on the other hand, has debuted a new trailer for the sequel, and it looks incredible.
New films from all the major studios, including Hocus Pocus 2, can be glimpsed in a trailer titled “Coming in 2022,” which includes snippets from all of them.
Winnie, Sarah, and Mary Sanderson appear to be strolling through an outdoor market or festival in this video. We can see Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimi in their Sanderson Sister costumes, and it’s like we’re back in the original 1993 picture all over again.
As a result, you’ll have to make do with the brief video that does exist.
Watch this space for the complete trailer! Watch Hocus Pocus on Disney+ in the meanwhile to get in the spirit. I don’t care if it’s not Halloween.
